FAQs
Where do I buy my book?
You can purchase your book through this website or search for it at Lifeway, Barnes & Noble, Thriftbooks, Alibris or any number of online websites or local bookstores.
Are you affiliated with a specific church or doctrine?
No, we are just a group of non-denominational women who enjoy studying the Bible together to find meaning and life application.
Is everyone welcome?
Yes, we embrace all women whether you are searching, unchurched, tatted up, pink hair, new Christians, bitter believers, balcony benchwarmers, seasoned Christians or just curious history buffs, you are welcome to join our Bible study groups and learn together what scripture reveals.
Is this a good way to meet other women and make friends?
As hokey as it sounds, many women have expressed this has been life changing for them, as they not only dive into the Bible, but have made new friends and reduced personal isolation, especially those who have moved into a new community and haven’t found their gal pals.
How many weeks does each Bible study group last?
Groups typically meet 12 weeks in the fall starting in September and 12 weeks in the winter starting in January. The exact length of time is dependent upon the specific book and study guide. There is a summer session that usually lasts 6-8 weeks.
How much does it cost?
There is no charge for Bible study, but you will need to purchase appropriate book based on what the leader is teaching that term.
May I change groups?
Yes, you are encouraged to change groups at the completion of a study and join a new group topic and meet new friends. However, some women choose to remain with the same leader as well. Sometimes we have the same book being taught in multiple groups, so if you can’t come one day due to scheduling issues, often you could join a different group on another day!
What if I can’t be there all the time or I have vacations planned?
We are a busy group of women committed to Bible study. However, often people must miss for one reason or another, and we expect that to happen. We welcome you to join us and come as much as you possibly can, but you won’t be shamed for being absent, because it happens to all of us.
Meet LaRaine
LaRaine is a mid-western girl from Missouri. She became a Christian when she was 10 years old at a Vacation Bible School service, and shortly thereafter, the rest of her family became believers and started attending church. She lived a busy life between family and a fulfilling career in education teaching home economics for five years, school counseling for 13 years, adjunct professor and Middle College director for five years, and Dean of a community college for three years. LaRaine weaved between Baptist and Methodist churches throughout these years; but, she never prioritized significant Bible study, always procrastinating. Upon retiring in 2015 and subsequently moving out of state to Florida for her husband, Scott’s, career in the marine industry, LaRaine felt convicted to begin studying the Word of God with intention and invited neighbors into her home to learn alongside her. After four years in Florida, her husband’s career moved them to coastal North Carolina in latter 2020. LaRaine began teaching Bible study online during covid. In 2024 the Holy Spirit moved and continued nudging her to start a Bible study in a coffee shop. Wanting to be obedient, LaRaine posted on a Facebook page, hoping to find 4-6 women to serve, and 120 women responded with interest! The beginnings of "Coffee Shoppe Talk” was launched. LaRaine continues to stress, she is not a Bible scholar, but just a lady who likes to pull women together, sip coffee and study Bible basics together in a casual vibe unrelated to a specific church. LaRaine’s hobbies include beach walking and shelling, cooking, and travel. Her best advice for other Christians is to move beyond the mistakes you’ve made, seek and recognize your spiritual gifts God has given you, use them and “speak Jesus.”
